  • Do you work with castings or can you start from solid material?

    We work with both casting suppliers and solid material. For production quantities, we can source cast housings (sand casting, investment casting, or die casting) and perform finish machining. For prototypes or low quantities, we can machine complete housings from solid aluminum or steel plate using efficient roughing strategies. 

  • Can you machine both small precision gearboxes and large industrial housings?

    Yes, our machining centers accommodate gearboxes from compact servo reducer housings (4″ diameter) up to large industrial gear cases exceeding 36″ in length. We have experience with gearboxes ranging from lightweight robot joints to heavy-duty industrial drive systems handling 10,000+ lb-ft torque. 

  • Which materials are best for gearbox manufacturing?

    We recommend aluminum alloys (356-T6, A380) for lightweight, high-speed applications, gray cast iron (Class 30, 40) for traditional industrial gearboxes with excellent vibration damping, ductile iron (65-45-12) for high-strength applications, and steel fabrications for custom designs. Material selection depends on torque requirements, operating speed, and environmental conditions.
     

  • What tolerances can you achieve for gearbox CNC machining?

    We consistently maintain tolerances of ±0.010″ for housing external features and ±0.0005″ for bearing bore diameters and bearing seat faces. Our precision boring capabilities ensure bearing center alignment within 0.001″ per foot and concentricity within 0.001″ TIR, critical for smooth operation and long bearing life.
